The Feldenkrais® Method is a somatic-based movement education method that combines small, slow, gentle, neurologically important movements with awareness to access the learning centers of the brain. This creates more neurological pathways for how we move, think, feel, and sense, leading to enhanced overall function. What makes Feldenkrais® unique?
The Feldenkrais Method® helps to re-educate our movement patterns through awareness by tapping into the body's own healing intelligence (the Nervous System). Not through force or effort, but through an increased consciousness of how our nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and all are parts work as an integrated whole. To paraphrase Moshe Feldenkrais, "If you focus on a problem, you will always have that problem. If you focus on your overall organization, you will improve".
The founder of the work believed that " Good posture (acture) is the ability to move in any direction without preparation or hesitation". Jeff Haller, one of my mentors who trained directly under Moshe Feldenkrais adds that this is" dependent on the specificity with which you receive support from the surface you are on".
Therefore, this method brings improvements through working with the whole person and their unique organization in discovering lighter, more efficient and connected movement in relation to ground support through the skeleton.
